2011 was a great year for us at On Blast Radio. Vida Starr returned back with her own show. We added a video show on youtube. We also began a partnership with KOPNGO.COM to help along with promotions and the video show. We have a lot of great artist on the show including Phia Lamour, Jimmy Valentime, Otis Clapp, Beejus and Korey Buckets to name a few. Now we shall take a look back at all the videos that help pass the year by here at On Blast Radio

10) Jimmy Valentime "Understand"- I remember when me and Jimmy went to Statik's studio and I picked this beat. Im happy to see this dude do his thing. This was the lead single to his latest project "Life In Amazin' Times" which dropped this Dec.

9) J. Nolan "Round" - J. Nolan is On Blast Radio Family. He had been the most consist and ever improving mc I have ever heard. This video is dope. the visuals are creative and far from your average rap video. Rumble young man Rumble

8) Sav "Shinning" Sav is a hustler and great rapper from Long Island who came on the show and dropped this nice video.

7) Phia La'Mour "Lacookoo" Remix ft The Hoodstarz- Phia is a very beautiful rapper from the Bay Area. This video shows the culture that down there and the song is pretty catchy. But don't be fooled, this woman right here..... SHE CAN RAP.

6) Mr Forbes "Murder Scene"- Mr Forbes dropped an impressive mix tape and this the visual to the title track "Murder Scene" and pretty much proves why the game is his. Shout out to June G.

5) The Doppelgangaz "Like What Like Me" - The Doppelgangaz dropped the ALBUM OF 2011 to me. The beats, the rhymes, the flows, the subject matter, it is indeed SHARK NATION. EP and Matter OV Fact are great duo who bring creative rhymes, dope beats and MUCH NEEDED humor to this sometimes over serious rap game. Anyways, this is the visual for the funny as hell "Like What Like Me" which is tribute to Matter's lack of standards in his women.

4) Fortie Bowie aka Daddy Nino "Weak" Forte Bowie and J.Nolan are from the same hip hop scene in the ATL and I first encountered Fortie when he did a beat for one of J Nolan's first projects. I didn't know he had rhymes as well as sing. This is one of the first single we played on On Blast Radio. The MJ sample is sick at the end. Nice visuals just a great single.

3) ScienZe "W.OM.A.N." ScienZe is a dope artist from Brooklyn and this is one of the beats I wish I made. Dope visuals, nice song and beautiful ladies. Cant go wrong.

2) Beejus "iParty" One of if not, the best party songs Ive heard. Beejus is another Bay Area prospect (they have a nice niche of hip-hop over there) and was a absolute pleasure to interview. His discography is top notch. Not much to say about this video. Just watch it and PARTY! Oh and get a sprite!

1) Ralphy Boy "Peep Game"- Ralphy Boy is my brother. For another. For real. It was a real honor to not only produce 80% of his first project but also to have his first video back in 2010. 2011 rolled in and we did a video for a single produce by my mentor and sometimes co-host Dj Man At Arms "Peep Game" . Shot in BK, it was just a fun experience to share with my brothers in music. Im also in the video also is my Jesus Piece (don't hate). Shout Out to The New Pop Media for shooting this.

In 2009, Kay M became BET's 106 and Park Freestyle Friday's first ever Grand Champion. Since then, he has worked with Grammy award winning producers Deezle and Bangladesh, opened up for Talib Kweli and travelled through North American on the Jay-z Blueprint 3 tour for 2 months. Beacause of his success, Kay M was able to headline his own 3 month tour in the UK in 2010. Scott Giannotti, also known as Sav, started rapping at the age of 11 after discovering Run DMC’s music. His family, The Giannotti has a history of over 40 years in the music industry and Long Island’s music scene. Sav has been pursuing music as a hobby since he was 12 years old. He started by taking bass guitar lessons, and got into punk and NY hard core music. Although he never got a band together which was functional, Sav decided to become a rapper because he loved to express himself and be in the spotlight. With the encouragement of close friends to pursue rap music, it was only until 2 years ago that he finally decided to live up to pursue music as a career. He spent the first year practicing and networking and developing his sound, which he describes as tonally versatile, dynamic, and emotionally driven. Within that same year, Sav had the opportunity to open for EPMD at the infamous Knitting Factory in NYC.
Among his musical influences, Sav lists BIG, Tupac, Rick Ross, Gang Starr, Red Man, Wu Tang Clan, Lil Wayne, Drake, Nicki Minaj, 50Cent, Busta Rhymes, Jimi Hendrix, and Black Sabbath.
When asked what his mission is, Sav replied: “To be the next distinct voice and public figure in hip-hop. My goal is to further the diversity and evolution of the culture, creating increased prosperity by generating a new sound, approach, and by being opportunistic. I feel that I am coming from a unique place with a real story that has endless chapters that are both relatable and dance worthy. I intend to use my background in the streets and academics to forge the right relationships and build my fan base one project at a time.”

5 Ways to Eat Healthy on a Budget

1. Shop for seasonal & local produce:
When you buy fruits and vegetables that are in season and local, they are way cheaper because they're growing in their natural environment and it doesn't take extra money and fuel power to bring them to your neighborhood. You can always find these eats at your local farmers market. You can also find lists of foods that are in season in your city/town/state online at localharvest.org.

2. Buy healthy bulk staples for the home:
Buy your basics by the bulk! Foods like brown rice, dry or canned beans, and oils last a long time and when you buy them in bulk or in large sizes you save a lot of cash.

3. Make a healthy shopping list before you shop:
When you make a shopping list, you're more likely to stick to it and not wander off into the frozen food or candy section. You also save money by not buying unnecessary foods!

4. Make meals from whole foods as opposed to processed foods:
Some think that it's really expensive to eat healthy, but if you stick to basic whole foods that are already healthy, you'll be straight. Instead of spending $5 on a frozen dinner, buy some spinach, plantains, avocado, and a whole wheat baguette and you're good to go! And your body will love you endlessly!

5. Cook your meals for the week:
We always complain about the money and time being barriers to making healthy foods. A helpful tip is to pick 1 or 2 days in which you make food that will last you through the week. You can make some of these foods really basic, so that you can spice them up in a 1-2-3. A perfect example is brown rice- one day you can choose to make a brown rice & broccoli stir fry, and another day you can throw some beans on that brown rice and have a totally different meal.

The show was created by Nutrition Educators Wendy Lopez and Jessica Jones as a creative outlet to help under served communities in New York City improve their diets and overall health. The show's mission is to reduce the risk of obesity in NYC by demonstrating how to prepare culturally diverse, delicious, quick and cost conscious meals at home. Wendy

Wendy Lopez is committed to serving as a revolutionary force of love, justice, and growth within communities of African decent that have been negatively impacted by the inequities of our food system. Through her experiences providing nutrition education workshops for children, adolescents, and families, this Bronx native strives to bridge the gap between food, health, and community. As a former consultant for the Department of Health, she worked with the Green Carts program to increase availability of fresh fruits and vegetables in schools within low-access neighborhoods. Currently working as a health educator and case manager for a suicide prevention program, Wendy builds with young Latina women, exploring how food and health have a direct impact on the mind and body. She is on her way to pursuing a M.S. in Nutrition at Hunter College, with the purpose of enriching community healing through holistic health.

Jess

Jessica Jones is a New York City-based Nutrition Educator with a passion for teaching marginalized communities about healthy and sustainable food choices. As a Senior Nutritionist for the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Jones has conducted hundreds of nutrition education workshops and cooking demonstrations for over 1,500 underserved New York City residents. In addition to her love of hands-on nutrition education and counseling, Jones has a passion for using media as a tool to promote healthy lifestyles. The California Native received a B.A. in Journalism from San Francisco State University, and has penned hundreds of articles about food, health and culture for publications like the Village Voice, Time Out New York, amNew York and Today’s Dietitian. Jones is a certified producer for Brooklyn Community Access Television and is currently finishing up her M.S. in Nutrition from Brooklyn College.

Phia La'mour Will Be Put On Blast 7/7/2011

“I’m not a female rapper. I am a female that can rap.”
Her name is Phia La’Mour. Some call her the Rap Raiderette, being from The Bay where the NFL Raiders football team is known for their tough play – just like Phia. Those who are close to her call her LaCooKoo, a term of endearment her father would say to her any time she would perform as a child.
"My father was my biggest supporter. When he died in 2003, I stopped doing music all together." It was not until 2008 when Phia La’Mour started to write again. The five year break allowed Phia to revive her love of music and begin to write about what was important to her. Unlike many female rappers and artists, Phia La’Mour creatively composes her work to reach both men and women. She writes her music based off of real life experiences; not just sex appeal and money.
To get back into the music industry, Phia created a MySpace account with the goal of getting her music heard and the opportunity to network and collaborate with artists. “I think without online networking, no one would even know me,” Phia explains. In 1985 J Martyr was born and raised in Sturgis Kentucky. At age 16 he recorded his first song but never made it public. After high school J Martyr decided to attend Western Kentucky University to obtain a bachelors in psychology, sociology, and a minor in criminology. While there, he got into a graduate school sociology program and attended for one semester. Known to radio listeners as MC Marcus Chapman, the author of the explosive tell-all book "Sex Time And Radio: The Raw Uncut Story of an On-Air Personality and the Decline of the Radio Industry" was born and raised on Chicago's south east side. He began his radio career in 1992 at WKDI in DeKalb, Illinois while attending Northern Illinois University. Upon graduating in 1995 with a Bachelors of Arts Degree and a minor in Black Studies, Chapman became the youngest employee at Chicago's #1 radio station at that time, WGCI. After serving time as a studio assistant and show producer, he joined the staff of on-air personalities in 1996; a staff that produced nationally renowned alumni like Tom Joyner, Doug Banks, Steve Harvey, and BET voiceover talent Rick Party. Marcus also worked alongside such Chicago radio talents as First Lady, Ramonski Luv, Dr. Luv, Jeanne Sparrow, Sam Sylk, and the Bad Boyz. In 1997 Chapman began building a significant following through his Friday night/Saturday morning show called "The Afterset", and made himself memorable to listeners by using the sound bite of legendary actress Eartha Kitt saying "Marcus darling" from the Eddie Murphy film Boomerang.

Denzel “Daddy Nino” Ayuk was born in Atlanta, GA on 8/20/1990. Parents are from Cameroon, a country on the West side of Africa. He developed a strong passion for music at a very young age. None of his family members have a background in music, but Nino always found himself in front of a radio or television. He trained his diversified ear at a young age as well, studying artist such as Michael Jackson, Phil Collins, Prince, Nas, New Edition, Hall & Oates, Sade, OutKast, Bon Jovi and much more. By the age of 9, his room was full of notebooks that contained original material written by him. All through elementary and middle school he participated in county plays and musicals portraying his acting as well as his singing.
In high school he was introduced to the Fruity Loops software, a program he mastered the first night he installed it. He made beats for fellow students and recorded novelty songs about his teachers for fun. As his production advanced, so did his rapping and songwriting skills. After his senior year, Nino had no intentions of going to school, but with strict foreign parents on his back, he did anyway. Instead of going to class, he stayed in his dorm recording songs on his new mic and playing them for his fellow students. Nino started uploading his songs and remixes on MySpace and YouTube. After receiving an amazing response worldwide, this motivated him to work even harder at his craft and to perfect it. Soon after, he eventually stopped using a pen and paper and started conducting his lyrics and melodies in his head.
Daddy Nino is an artist. Not just a singer, rapper, producer, dancer or actor. His goal is to push boundaries and familiarize the world with his idea of “the impossible”; taking all things that society says no to and transforming them into your everyday norm. The music itself is a combination of all styles and genres and showcases his potential to be one of the most sought after producers of our time. At the age of 20, he knows his music’s value and where he wants to go. Daddy Nino’s music cannot fit into a category; it must stand on its own.

LevelLs was raised in Brooklyn, New York. He developed his passion for music early in life and he knew that it was going to be a priority, not an option. He decided to continue the tradition of music through the generations in his family. Always playing music as a youth, He took a strong love to the drums and piano. His first production was at 9 yrs old on the first piece of equipment that he recalls producing on, a DX-7 synthesizer and a Yamaha drum machine. LevelLs was always known for music in high school. In those years, He was a part of a 4-piece band called I.D.E.A. where he played the drums and they would play for local events.

LevelLs went on to study Music Engineering in college and left early to focus on his music career. He started working with other musicians in the New York tri-state as well as other states to expand his market for music production. He evolved relentlessly and pushed forward to create a style of music that is influenced by 80’s Pop, Classical to Hip-Hop and combining them into new sounds. His music influences are broad and very vast, even drawing inspiration from some of his favorite comedians such as, Chris Rock and Bernie Mac. "A good comedian always has good relevance to life, and that is what I put in my music.

"LevelLs is currently branding his own independent venture. He is currently working on his debut album, “The Resume” due out spring 2011. His debut single, “Hip-Hop” already has a good buzz through the internet which is his ode for the love of the culture. With his smooth, slick wordplay, he's bringing a reminisce back of Hip-Hop’s 90's Golden Era with a current style that will continue the tradition of Hip-Hop for years to come.

Bobby Flacco was born in Oxnard, CA in 1985 to a Puerto Rican mother and Italian father. In his early years he was touted as a highly intelligent boy who couldn't seem to follow rules. His mother was a drug addict and alcoholic who would physically abuse him. This caused Bobby to backlash against society and disrespect teachers and authority. During the summer of 1999, things took an abrupt turn for Bobby that caused his whole outlook on life to change.

Bobby Flacco's mother was thrown in jail for selling narcotics and he was forced to survive off friends and family. Fueled by animosity towards his mother, Bobby told himself he would change the direction he and his siblings were in.

Bobby would move to Los Angeles at 17 and attend the University of Southern California where he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning and Construction Management. He currently works as an engineer to a major construction firm during the day, and hits the studio at night.

Welcome to the movement. The Hip-Hop group named Prolific, which consists of four MC’s from the southeast, started this movement back in 1997. Flamez, Neme, Zin O.D. and Exile the Experience met while living in Orlando, Florida. The members were introduced to each other in high school by a neighborhood friend. He linked Flamez and Exile together, and later on they were introduced to Neme. Zin O.D. was the younger brother of another neighborhood friend and the last MC to join the group. They proceeded to rock talent shows and freestyle battles every chance they could get. After graduation, the crew stayed close and continued their journey.
Throughout the years this dynamic quartet has released a series of mixtapes and singles for the masses. In 2005, Prolific released the mixtape called “Live From The O Part 1”. That was just the first installment of the series and in 2008 and 2009, “Live From The O Part 2 and 3” was released, respectively. The singles, “Get Your Hustle Up” and “Situations” produced by San Calo, was released in 2009. “Get Your Hustle Up” which features Zin O.D., Neme and Exile is a radio ready, street banger, with sharp lyricism and a hypnotizing beat. Flamez, Neme and Zin O.D. are featured on “Situations”. The laid back hook and smooth beat is the perfect platform to let the listener get lost in the storytelling. “Spell On You” featuring Nina Simone produced by Sutta Caine and “The Real” produced by San Calo was released in 2010. Also in 2010 Prolific linked up with two of Germanys top Dj’s, Dj Decane and Dj Danny T to help release both their mixtapes “New York New York hosted by Prolific”and “Hip Hop 2 RnB vol.12 hosted by Prolific, they also license one of their song “Getting Down” with allisports. With the release of “Teamprolific.com Sampler” ”Southern Hospitality and Prolific upcoming mixtapes “Now Or Never” “Live From The O Part 4” and the EP The Movement scheduled to drop in 2010, the sky is the limit.
Each member brings a different style to the table, to make Prolific an unstoppable force. Flamez, who is originally from Bronx, NY, has a fearless delivery and a flow like a rollercoaster ride. He moves seamlessly from metaphor to metaphor while riding the beat with ease. Originating from Brooklyn, NY, Neme, has an unmistakable voice with a flow to match. His raspy voice puts emphasis on every word, and ends each statement with an exclamation point. Zin O.D., who is from Florida, has a rapid fire delivery that can rival Twista’s. At any tempo, he can slow down or speed up his flow to perfectly complement any beat, yet lyrically, pass any test. Exile the Experience was born in Atlanta, Ga, and this southerner uses his distinct pitch and poignant lyrics to leave a lasting impression. All together, these four men are on a mission to sustain Hip-Hop as a global genre. Welcome to the movement.

Its a sad day in hip-hop. Fat Beats was a store that was once holy ground for hip-hop. Any MC that wanted prove his/her skills, walked through that door and had a cipher. If you were into vinyl records ( you know, the big black round thingys that music came out of) Fat Beats was your spot. Many producers of hip-hop legend came there to shop, talk and share their love for genre. Sadly, due to downloading, the economy, and the sad state of the game today, Fat Beats was forced to close its doors. But, it didnt go out in a whimper, but a bang. Jimmy Valentime and several other MCs decided to come together for one last cipher for old times sake. Several DVD and camera crews, include the NBC footage up above, captured the last cipher.
